Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arcandra Tahar, said that the coal business is still very promising in Indonesia. “Recently The coal business is still increasing due to the high necessity for energy. Even until 2050, energy mix in Indonesia is still 25 percent that sourced from coal. Even in 2025, it will be just about 30 percent of energy mix,” he said.

According to him, coal is an affordable price of energy. However, the coal does not exist in all regions, therefore it needs to be distributed to the areas without coal. “In this case, it does not mean that the price can be cheaper so it needs a balance between the energy and the price. Coal is an affordable price of energy. Compared to renewable energy that can be more expensive than Coal,” he said.

His ministry also confirmed that the government is also committed to developing renewable energy. However, according to energy mix, renewable energy is targeted at 23 percent. While coal is higher than that. “Therefore, coal with renewable energy must be synergized, and coal will still be used and renewable energy will be pushed,” he said.

Reduce Import

Meanwhile the Ministry of Industry has boosted the increase of investment in domestic plastics and rubber industries to strengthen the manufacturing structure to push the positive value and reduce imported raw materials. “Plastics and rubber industry is the backbone that is closely linked to other industries that can support national development,” Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry Haris Munandar said.

In order to attract investors, according to Haris, the government has issued various strategic programs and policies in creating a conducive business condition, and also, providing simplification for some licensing process and starting a business in Indonesia. “For example, incentives for export oriented for labor-intensive industry and the industries that develop innovation and vocation. Ministry of Industry has also facilitated the develop of the several integrated industrial area, especially outside of Java Island, “he said.

The Secretary General has stated that the important role of plastic and rubber products as they are needed by the strategic manufacturing sectors which are integrated among other industries such as food, machinery, automotive, and electronics. “Therefore, based on the regulation ofMinistry of Industry and RIPIN, the government and the stakeholders will synergize in pushing the productivity and competitiveness of the industry,” he said.

The development of plastic and rubber industry in Indonesia is surely quite prospective. Currently the potential of the national plastic industry is supported by 925 companies with total production is reaching 4.68 million tons per year for various plastic products and able to provide jobs for 37,327 people.

“The demand for national plastic products is 4.6 million tons now, increase five percent in the last five years,” Haris said. He also hopes that local plastic products can win the local market and able to compete in international market.

Meanwhile, according to rubber commodities, Indonesia is one of the main producing countries of natural rubber with the production of 4 million tons per year. National natural rubber production can still be increased considering to the potential of the existing land that reaches 3.5 million hectares. Furthermore, supported by research and development (R&D) program conducted by government, educational institutions and private sectors.

Pondok pesantren (ponpes) potentially had to support the implementation of the fourth industrial revolution in Indonesia. This was based on the roadmap of Making Indonesia 4.0, where one of the national priority steps that needed to be implemented was to empower of Indonesian company especially micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).

“Recently ponpes has taken a part in encouraging the economic growth, because many of them which have built the cooperatives, develop the various business units, both small and medium scale, and also, have business incubators,” said Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto.

Ministry of Industry has intensively carrying out the activities of developing of new industrial entrepreneurs and the development of industrial units in the pesantren. It was called the Santripreneur program. “Almost 70 percent of Indonesian businessmen are in MSME sector. This is a quite strong asset to face the industrial revolution 4.0,” said Airlangga.

Airlangga added that ponpes had great potential to create new entrepreneurs and grow the small and medium industries. “This is certainly a gift from God that we should be grateful for. Our potential is very large that supported by a lot of campuses and pesantrens in Indonesia which is not exist in other countries in the world,” he added.

Based on data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, during the year 2014-2015, in Indonesia there were 28,961 ponpes spread all of the province which had santri of more than 4 million people. From the total of ponpes, 23,331 ponpes or 80 percent of them were in 4 provinces, which were West Java, East Java, Central Java and Banten.

Minister of industry optimistically said that with the development of the digital era today, the students could be a strategic change agent in building the nation and the Indonesian economy in the future. For that reason, Indonesian santri must study seriously in science, both religion and entrepreneurship. They, the majority of millenial generation, also need to understand the latest technology.

Moreover, in the next 10 years, Indonesia would havethe demographic or momentum bonus when the population was dominated by productive age (ages 15-64 had reached 70 percent). Currently Indonesia’s economy is ranked 16th in the world. We believe, according to aspirations in Making Indonesia 4.0, it can be a country that is in the top 10 of the world’s strongest economies by 2030.

Therefore, the ministry of industry was committed to support the development of national Small Medium Industry (IKM) in the era of digital economy, by building an e-commerce platform called e-Smart IKM. The Government have been working with a number of domestic marketplaces to provide IKM e-Smart workshops to several regions in Indonesia, so santri should also take this opportunity.

Until now, there were 1,730 IKM businessmen who have participated in IKM e-Smart workshops. By 2019, The ministry of industry would target to invite up to 10 thousand IKM businessmen in Indonesia to attend the workshop. Government will also build technology centers to improve the acces of IKM to technology acquisitions and provide the mentoring support to encourage the innovation.

Pesantrenpreneur Program already initiated by the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) and inaugurated by President Joko Widodo. The program will be run in an integrated steps, starting from training, mentoring, capitalization, to marketing.

One of the early realization of Pesantrenpreneur Program is the opening of Islamic concept stores called “Ummart” in 10 pesantren which become a medium of marketing for local pesantren products and local Micro Small Medium Enterprise products around the pesantren.

Jokowi has supported all programs about people’s economic empowerment since the beginning. Moreover, he also concerns to increase the development of country’s sharia economy. The new perspectives on the current economic conditions were told to santri. The economic disruption era that marked by the technology based on sharing economy needed to be internalized to santri’s business understanding.

Pesantrenpreneur itself, was a program of strengthening people’s economy based on boarding schools. This program involved HIPMI which fully support by the government, the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo), and various others.

The purpose of Pesantrenpreneur is to mobilize the economics of young santri to the village areas which is the basis of pesantren. They will support each other with the concept of building from the grass root that runs by the government.

The governments of Indonesia and Singapore were ready to collaborate to build an integrated digital community or digital hub area at ASEAN level, as a respond to the industry revolution 4.0. “We aware of this change of era, it needs to prepare various appropriate steps, so that it will bring positive impact to the economy and starting business in Indonesia,” said Indonesia’s Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto.

Airlangga said that after his meeting with Singapore’s Minister of Communication and Information, S. Iswaran. Minister of Industry explained that, in the preparation of the implementation of Industry 4.0, the Indonesian government had launched the roadmap of Making Indonesia 4.0 which was inaugurated by the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo.

“So, there is a clear direction for the development of the competitiveness of our manufacturing sector in the future, including our targets,” he said. Based on the Making Indonesia 4.0, there were five manufacturing sectors that will focus on the early stages, which were the food and beverage industry, textiles and apparel, automotive, electronics and chemicals.

“The target is Indonesia will be the seventh strongest economy country in the world in 2030. In fact, in 2050, Indonesia is efforted to be ranked fourth in the world,” he explained. Airlangga believed this digital economic cooperation will make the increase forwardof the economy of Indonesia and Singapore. Furthermore, it will potentially make the increased investment and competence of human resources (HR), and also, the transfer of technology and innovation.

These positive impacts were suit with the 10 national priority steps in Making Indonesia 4.0. “For example, building a national digital infrastructure, improving the quality of human resources, and the development of innovative ecosystems,” he said.

Indonesia will conduct the second World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) which will be planned to take place in Bali on November 2018. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) said that the creative economy is one of the booster of economic growth and development in the future by cultivating Indonesian culture. The upcoming WCCE 2018 is expected to arrange a basic standard for creating a conducive environment to the growth of Indonesia’s creative economy.

The creative economy have been growing very impressively in this country and becoming an important contributor to social and economic development. Startup companies that based on information technology, such as Go-Jek, Traveloka, Tokopedia and BukaLapak that started their business in the last few years, now each value has exceeded more than one billion USD.

Those four Indonesian startup companies have already been becoming unicorns because each asset is one billion USD or more. Vice Chairman of Bekraf, Ricky J Persik, revealed that the creative economy sector has contributes 7.43 percent of the total GDP in Indonesia, or about 70 billion US dollars.

Approximately 17 million people are worked in the creative economy in Indonesia. "One of the challenges is how to bring this creative industry into a main booster of the country’s economic sector in the future," said Ricky. The creative economy is predicted to be one of the booster of economic growth and global development in the future.

Now the creative economy has became an economic booster with a capitalization of 2.25 trillion US dollars, which provides nearly 30 million jobs worldwide. The more important fact is that the contribution of the unicorn companies are not only looking to the company’s economic value and financial benefit, but have also been able to empower the local community in an inclusive way.

Indonesian Comics, Main Sector of Creative Economy

Indonesian comics are growing as the platform allows by the readers to read them through mobile phones or computers. Head of Creative Economy Board (Bekraf) Triawan Munaf feels optimistic that comics have great potential that will push the creative economy of the country.

"The synergy among the various sub-sectors of the creative economy will strengthen the industry, and the comics are the main sectors," Triawan said. The managers of The Intellectual Property of Indonesia which focus on unity of comic industry in Indonesian Comics Association (AsosiasiKomik Indonesia/AKSI).

Faza Meonk as Chairman of AKSI and Imansyah Lubis as the General Secretariat of AKSI admited that in a few years Indonesian comics have successfully collaborated with some other entertainment industries. In 2017, there are two Indonesian movies which are adapted from the comic book, "Valentine" and "Si Juki the Movie."

Moreover, currently the collaboration among comics with games, performing arts, and music has been conducted. "Indonesian Comics are the main of all that (creative economy industry). Comics are the first idea of character that then appear to become some characters in some stories. So the basic story is from comics," said Triawan.

The government promised to support constantly to push the growth of creative economy in Indonesia, including comics industry as one of its focus. Next year Indonesia will become a Country Focus in London Book Fair. Indonesian comics will be the one of the center of attention at London Book Fair next year.

It is not wrong to think of Jakarta as a fintech center that will drive the Indonesian business in the future. The fintech investors all over the world tend to be more confident in investing their money for developing countries, especially countries in Asia such as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, etc. Compare to theseSouth East Asia countries, even Asia, Jakarta (as the capital of Indonesia) is the most potential choice of investment for various reasons. The other developing countries in Asia that just aware of the importance of technology of non-cash transactions, are on the next list.

Jakarta has become the city with the most rapid development of infrastructure compared to other cities in Indonesia, even in Southeast Asia. The proof is the appear of towering office buildings and luxury malls that became the favourite place of Jakarta people to have relax.

That proof can be a benchmark for the progress the economic aspect of a city in the world. Even the capital that is also the center of business has also started to improve in terms of transportation, payment, etc., such as online transportation services, and also the application of digital payments (e-money). It’s really help the citizens.

The appear of fintech start up service currently in Jakarta is very useful for the community, especially those who have never connect with bank. It can be the answer why the development of startup or fintech business in Jakarta increasingly becomes the best choice by the investors both domestic and foreign. During 2017 fintech activities is mostly dominated by payment and lending such as e-money at toll gates, Transjakarta tickets, and also shopping mall in Jakarta.

And if there is cooperation between bank with fintech technology (startup fintech), then there will be increased fintech activities in all big cities across Indonesia in 2018, as has been stated by Digital Artha Media (DAM). While the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN) predicts, investment in the sector of fintech will exceed Rp 105.6 trillion in 2018.

So it is common if the developing of fintech technology in a country firstly will start by penetrating on segment or market at Jakarta, as the bigggest city, then continue to other big cities, such as Surabaya, Medan, Bandung, Semarang , Makasar, and others.

And when fintech technology has developed especially in big cities of Indonesia, automaticly its technology would have been able to catch up with some major cities in the world, just like Singapore. Nowdays Singapore is becoming one of the successful cities to adopt fintech technology. More over the Singapore state plans to make their country as the fintech center of the world.

So the only homework for start-up fintech entrepreneurs is, spreading their digital services all over Indonesia, so that the majority of Indonesia people (about 270 million of population) can understand and familiar with the service. And then, our country can take over the position as the fintech center of the world.
