Indonesia Become The Role Models of Muslim World Fashion in 2020
Indonesia expects to be a role models of muslim world fashion in 2020. For that reason, the Ministry of Industry try to make it happen by initiating a step, which unifies the interest of the fashion industry stakeholders.
"We are now exploring, and coordinating with the association to make it happen," said Director General of Small and Medium Industry (IKM) at the Ministry of Industry, Gati Wibawaningsih. According to Gati, associations from various business sectors such as IKM of apparel, accessories, shoes, and bags, will be gathered to build and realize the expectation of the Indonesian fashion industry.
Not only apparel, Gati said that other fashion products such as shoes, bags, makeup also need to support to realize the expectation. Gati said, to become the role models of Muslim fashion world, the export of Indonesian Muslim products must be the highest in the world. Unfortunately, there is no different of the Harmonized System (HS) code of fashion products between muslim and non muslim products.
"Well, here we are, we would like to separate HS for Muslim fashion products to get the value of the exports. Now our exports are below Bangladesh, Pakistan and other countries, but that is not real," said Gati. Gati continued, However, if the separation of HS is not successful, then the calculation will be re-combined with non-Muslim products.
Meanwhile, The Minister of Industry, Airlangga Hartarto, reminded Indonesia as the biggest Muslim population in the world potentially dominate the Muslim fashion industry of the world. Indonesia is also one of the top five countries of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (IOC) as the biggest Muslim fashion exporter in the world, after Bangladesh, Turkey, Morocco and Pakistan.
Thus, it is very feasible for Indonesia to be the role modelsof Muslim fashion in the world in 2020. Airlangga also appreciated the event of Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2018 which provides a special hall for Muslim fashion products.
"I really appreciate to APPMI, because at this exhibition event there is one special hall for Muslim fashion. This is certainly an effort from APPMI to participate in realizing Indonesia become the role models of Muslim world fashion," He said.
